Students from the Agriculture Studio program attended the Jamestown Sheep and Cattle Education Day recently. We learned so much about handling, classing, wool classing and the new technologies that are being developed and implemented in the sheep industry. Past student Bianca Wood was there as a presenter, teaching students all about cattle. She was there representing her own stud and it is so great to see past students flying high in the primary industries sector of South Australia.
On Friday the 19th August, the BHS Merino Wether Show Team competed in the Copper Coast Show Schools Merino Wether Competition. Students competed in the junior handler class as well as the presentation class. The team performed exceptionally well, with 3 out of 6 students making it the final of the handler competition, with Emily Gibson placing first and Chloe Bull placing third (Zeanna Watlan was our 3rd finalist). The team also managed to place second for overall presentation. This competition was a warm up for the Royal Adelaide Show in a couple of weeks, with the students learning a lot and feeling more confident heading into the show. Congratulations to all students involved, your hard work is starting to pay off. A big thank you to Geoff Cavanagh for driving us and supporting the students on the day.

Wool News
With the Royal Adelaide Show just around the corner, some of the competitions have already been judged. Balaklava has won Champion Fleece in our Zone for the schools fleece competition. A massive congratulations to all involved. This is a great achievement!
Produce for Sale
As always there is plenty of produce for sale from the farm! We have re started the Farmer’s Market, which will be set up out the front of the Community Library on Thursdays and Fridays. You will be able to buy fresh produce from the farm, as well as dehydrated fruit and various jams. New stock added regularly. Order forms for meat will also be available, or contact me any time at the school for meat purchases.
We will soon be taking orders for Christmas Turkeys and whole or sides of pork, with the new stock in and growing, expertly looked after by the students of BHS. Pullets will also be available later in Term 4 and are already selling fast!
