Balaklava Eisteddfod
Eisteddfod Congratulations!
Thank you and congratulations to all the students involved in the Eisteddfod last Friday and on the weekend. You all represented our school with pride and Choir and Vocal Ensemble performed beautifully. The students who helped at various venues throughout the event were greatly appreciated by the convenors. Mr Szular's physics class who helped set up on Thursday afternoon were apparently the fastest set up team they have ever had! Well done and thank you.
Congratulations to the following students who competed individually over the weekend:
Blade Williams - Speech and Drama
Abbey Bubner - Vocal Scholarship - Runner-up, Musical Theatre solo - 2nd Place, Classical Vocal Solo - Honourable Mention.
Alex Bousfield - Speech and Drama - 1st place
Paige Bubner and Olivia Allen - small Vocal Ensemble - Honourable Mention
Our Vocal Ensemble (Sarah-Ann Sanders, Leyla Jacobson, Ella Taylor, Alice McArdle, Paige Bubner, Abbey Bubner) also performed at the Finale Concert on Sunday and Mitchell McLean performed with his Wind Ensemble, both groups performed beautifully. Many of our students performed in the awesome ‘High School Musical’ item at the Finale Concert too – well done Alex Bousfield, Abbey Bubner, Paige Bubner, Tyler Durdin, Charlie Evans, Maddie Gorman, Sophie Hamdorf. Mitchell McLean also volunteered his time at venues throughout the weekend setting up, operating sound and lights.

Thank you to all of you for your hard work and preparation and representing Balaklava High School with excellence.
Thanks also to all the staff who helped out or supported our students throughout the weekend, especially Suri Umapathysivam and Cerys Harris-Howson for supporting students on the Friday and Suri’s awesome conducting on the Friday and Sunday. We were delighted to have the support of Principal Sonia Pringle attending each of our performances on the Friday and Sunday too. Thank you!

Thank you from the President of the Balaklava Eisteddfod Society
On behalf of the Balaklava Eisteddfod I would like to pass on my very grateful thanks to all who helped in anyway over the Eisteddfod weekend such as allowing us the use of the beautiful Performing Arts Centre, lending us equipment and the students who worked all day Friday. The teachers from the visiting schools were so grateful for their quick thinking and actions to do set ups in record times. They are the reason our competition keeps on time all day. We also had some students helping on Saturday announcing, working in the Eisteddfod office and behind the scenes.
To the music teachers, Melanie and Suri and their music students, you must be so proud as the students looked amazing, performed so well and are a credit to your school. Thank you to the Vocal Ensemble who performed as guests artists on Sunday at the Finale Concert; they were just delightful.
To all students who took part in the Eisteddfod, well done and an extra congratulations to Abbey Bubner who was a worthy Runner up in the AMVC Vocal Scholarship.
Thank you also for your welcoming message on your magnificent electronic noticeboard, welcoming visitors to Balaklava Eisteddfod and wishing competitors well. It made me feel so proud to be a part of the Balaklava Community and was noticed by many, many people. Thank you all again for your contribution to the 2019 Balaklava Eisteddfod.
Kind Regards
