Last Friday, 11th December 2020, we held a Balaklava High School Awards Assembly in the gym. This is the first time we have had an assembly like this as our traditional Presentation Night was yet another event to fall victim to the COVID-19 pandemic. We very much hope that we are able to gather as ‘normal’ once again next year in the Town Hall to celebrate the year.
We were very pleased that a significant number of students who make up the Class of 2020 were able to come back and join us. Some had already embarked on the next phase of their lives with employment and were unable to join us. The day was a celebration of the graduating class, academic award winners across all year levels, special award recipients and we were treated to a musical performance by Year 12 student, Abbey Bubner, before the Year 9 students received their Middle School Graduation Certificates.
I acknowledge how difficult it was for parents and extended families of the Year 12s who were unable to join us on Friday. I understand the heartbreak of not being able to see your children graduate as I experienced it myself this year when my daughter graduated from Uni and there were no ceremonies at all. Year 12 Graduation is a significant milestone that is not only a celebration of all that these young people have achieved over 13 years of schooling but it’s also an acknowledgement of all of the highs and lows, laughs and tears and all of the support parents have provided to their children over the same length of time and I thank you for that. Parents, you should be very proud of all of your hard work and you should be so very proud of the fine young men and women your children have become.
Over the weekend, families were emailed the link to the recording of the Awards Assembly but you can also click on the following link: https://youtu.be/BEflvKAAQT4

It was a big week for the Year 12s with Wednesday finally providing the opportunity for their long awaited Formal. Students and their families were very patient as we were required to postpone on more than one occasion due to the pandemic but we got there in the end and the students all looked amazing! A big thank you to Ms Brookes and Miss Reusch and their band of helpers as the quadrangle at school was transformed with fairy lights, alfresco dining and music. Students were greeted by a professional photographer on arrival on the red carpet and could then pose for more photos throughout the evening. Again, we acknowledge that it wasn’t the event we’d originally planned for but we are grateful to finally be able to celebrate with the students.
2021 M&S Fees – Polling Result
Recently, our polling papers were scrutinized by an independent adjudicator and the polling resulted in a positive outcome. The results were tabled at our recent Governing Council meeting and we wish to advise that because of the positive result, that school fees for the 2021 year will be $460.00 plus any additional subject fees. This also provides us with the opportunity to debt collect the full $460.00 (plus any additional subject fees) should this be necessary.
